We will have areas for family craft projects and will have a Sunday School open house as well as some guided tours of our own “green” building. We will serve hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and some side dishes.
If you are going back to school, as a teacher or a student, we will be blessing you and your backpack, briefcase or other teaching-learning tools. We also want to make sure our neighbors know about this and feel free to join in and find out about the very Episcopal tradition of offering blessings. St. Andrew’s, Ben Lomond, will hold its fourth annual Service for the Healing of Violence at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11. Despite the date, the service is not about the 9/11 attacks, but about healing from violence from all perspectives, as a victim, perpetrator, friend/family member, or witness. Many of you have already enjoyed the lively fiddle of John Weed and the guitar artistry of Stuart Mason as they have appeared on several occasions in the Bryson Hesperia area with Molly’s Revenge and Little Black Train. This time, Story Road finds Weed and Mason teaming with the lovely and exciting voice of Colleen Raney and accordion skills of Johnny B. Connolly.

Following up on the success of their Spring 2013 tour, acclaimed traditional Celtic musicians Colleen Raney, Johnny B. Connolly, Stuart Mason and John Weed team up for another West Coast tour, again performing as the new Celtic quartet Story Road. From the Pacific Northwest down to the Central Coast of California, Story Road brings a lively brew of Irish, Scottish, American and original music that ranges from delicate to hard-driving, with a few surprises in the mix. On Saturday, September 14 at 7:00 pm, Story Road will be performing at St. Mary’s!

Please come along to see the UK award-winning play, CELL TALK: 1410 by Calvary parishioner, Dana Bagshaw. The story of this play is drawn from the writings of two women from 15th century England: the highly regarded mystic Julian of Norwich and her younger contemporary Margery Kempe — a more controversial figure, both then and now.
Julian, who lives in a cell attached to a church in Norwich, welcomes a troubled Margery for several consultations. Meanwhile Margery persuades her husband John to take a vow of celibacy, so that she can become a pilgrim.
Matt Matthews, known from his work with Santa Clara Players, provides his excellent direction. Ali Eppy is perfect as Julian of Norwich, and Shannon Gilligan Hemphilll’s portrayal of Margery is powerful. Rick Kuhn adds his delightful characterization of John Kempe, Margery’s long-suffering husband.
“One woman rooted . . . and one wandering . . . beautiful and inspired” says Peter Oswald, who selected Cell Talk as winner of a UK playwriting competition held while he was resident playwright at the Globe Theatre.
